I don’t know how the time goes by so quickly. I thought I had a nice, long, leisurely winter to create and suddenly I’m in the midst of show season. It opened last weekend for me with a small local show which is always lovely to do. And now suddenly I’m scrambling to keep enough work on hand for three shows in April.

I’ll be heading to Helena, Montana on April 6th, Missoula, Montana on April 18th, and then to Denver, Colorado on April 27th to finish off the month. If you’re in the neigborhood for any of these shows I’d love to see you in person! Please click on the show schedule for all the pertinent information.

For tonight though, we have a nice bottle of champagne, French Onion Soup (courtesy of The Pioneer Woman who has the best recipe ever) and a homemade sugar-free apple pie that is piping hot. It should be just about down so I gotta go for now.

Yes, that is the view from my back porch. It’s a typical winter scene for January in Montana. There’s been a lot of geese on the water this week:

It’s fun to watch them landing on the water though take off seems to be quite the production.

It’s been a busy couple of weeks here as I continue to work on show applications. It takes time to figure out when and where you are going for the next year. For me, the waiting is the hardest part. I like things to be planned out and settled for the year. For juried shows though, you send in your fee and then you can wait for weeks or sometimes months before you find out if you got in. It makes planning tough.

I’ve been busy working on some new bracelets I’m very excited about and I’m just dying to post pictures. Most of the work is done, but I”m waiting on a couple of key components to finish them off. Once again, the waiting is the hardest part!

Looking out from our back deck this morning we spied two young bald eagles in training. I can’t tell if they are learning to hunt or learning to fly today, but mom and dad have been taking turns hunting and teaching all week. I think this is the first time in more than ten years that we’ve seen the eagles with more than one chick. We call it The Eagle Tree because this is where they land the most and scout out river. Every now and then we will see one of the mature balds come back up in the tree with a fish. It’s rare for us to get a good photo. The balds are very sensitive to humans and they always spot the lens before we can take a picture. These were taken from inside the house because the second we open the back door the mature would be alerted to our presence.

And a close up of the parent:

I broke down and bought myself some cab mandrels for Christmas. I think I’m in trouble as they are way more fun than I ever anticipated. I’ll get some pictures posted this weekend and tell you more about them then.

I’m still trying to figure out my show schedule for next year. Why is it that so many good shows happen on the same weekend?

I finally got a chance to sit down and look through the December Bead Design Studio. Yes, I know the year is virtually over, but it’s been a hectic month and I was grateful for the down time. One of the things I really like about the magazine is that they have an interest in lampwork so I always get some new eye candy there. I found a RAW (right angle weave) bracelet I’d like to make up in some of my spare time. I was also delighted to find one of my owls in the Bead Art Showcase. Maybe someday I will be able to take photographs that good!

It’s a cold and blustery Christmas Eve here. Tummy is full of homemade apple pie and vanilla ice cream. I used Pink Lady apples so it was nice and tart. All is quiet here now, except for the crackling of the fire inside and the howling of the wind outside so I have a little time to work on my new website transition. The old one has been in need of attention for awhile now and my needs seem to be different from when I first began utilizing so it looks like I will be starting the New Year with a new incarnation. Tomorrow I will see about adding photos of some current work and then transfer the old web address to the new. Hopefully, it will be relatively easy and everything will be up and running in no time.

Merry Christmas & Safe Travels to Everyone.
